I was fortunate to snorkel through the Clam Gardens in Watson’s Bay, where giant clams, cuttlefish, black-tipped reef sharks, blue-spotted stingrays and thousands of fish swam beside us amidst the colourful coral.

Lizard Island is truly like nowhere else on Earth. It is one of Australia’s most unique, raw and beautiful destinations, teeming with life above and below the surface of the turquoise waters.
I spent my time at Lizard Island in awe of the natural beauty. But my senses were equally delighted to luxuriate in the tranquility of the hilltop pool villa; the private infinity pool over-looked the azure reefscape and bubbled gently as the great gumtrees rustled in the balmy breeze. The interiors are peaceful retreats, thanks to the natural materials design.
I loved the beachfront suite. From sunrise to sunset the view of the white sandy beach and the dreamy blues of Anchor Bay was framed only by coconut palms and sails on the horizon. The forget-me-not skies were bright and clear all day, the stars glowed in abundance all night-fading in and out with dawn and dusk in shades of orange, pink and purple.
The beach and crystal-clear water are only metres away from the deck. With not much more than the outdoor shower nestled under the palm trees between the suite and the shore.
Pack a good book or borrow one from the library and unwind on the huge daybed on the expansive outside deck.

In the luxurious bathroom, treat yourself to the iKOU body products. Founded by Naomi Whitfield, iKOU is an Australian organic skincare and spa lifestyle range.
I had the best night sleep thanks to the turn-down service, offering eight hours of serenity in a high-quality bed with soft linen, personally selected pillows and the scent of the iKOU lemon myrtle mist diffuser. The stillness and quiet of a private island, moved only by the lapping of the shore, is a lullaby at the end of the day.
To unwind from of the stress and uncertainty of the pandemic – and 2021, I recommend visiting Essentia Day Spa at Lizard Island so you can rest, relax and restore with an iKOU Spa Journey inspired by nature. I loved my spa treatment and overall experience.
I enjoyed one hour of iKOU Deep Cell Hydration, a facial that is designed to restore elasticity and radiance. It’s deeply hydrating, I felt so relaxed and my skin felt rejuvenated post spa treatment.
There are so many activities on offer at Lizard Island, both guided and private. Try snorkelling, diving, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, tennis, yoga and spa treatments.

One of my favourite Lizard Island experiences was paddling over the reef on a glass bottom kayak. The waters of the bay were crystal clear below me, revealing the awe-inspiring life of the Great Barrier Reef. You have to see it to believe it. If you love nature walks with ocean views, Lizard Island is a must-do. Hike in the footsteps of Captain James Cook atop the highest point on the island, Cook’s Look. Learn about the Traditional Owners of this Land and Sea Country by immersing yourself in it. Listen and learn about the many stories of Lizard Island’s distant and recent past.
On my way to Turquoise Bay, I felt connected to the area, I took a moment to acknowledge the Traditional Owners as the first custodians of this wondrous island and to honour the Elders.
I was swept away with everything I observed, felt and experienced here.

The food and beverages including desserts, mocktails and cocktails are incomparable. It is an experience all on it’s own, with a menu changing daily. The culinary surprises are a journey for the tastebuds at every meal.
