6 ways to beat JUNK FOOD cravings

Do you crave junk food? Do you get sucked into those supermarket junk food specials when you are lining up waiting to be served?

Is your mind constantly telling you: I feel like chocolate….if so…then there is a good chance your very stressed and you might not even know it, turning to comfort food to ease some emotional pain, or simply bored at work {are we there yet?} I only know this from my own past experiences of being a comfort food eater, which saw me put on 25+kilos.

When we are stressed our moods can be up and down and so can our eating habits. When it comes to afternoon tea time it can be tempting while working in the office to want to head to the Charity Chocolate box because it’s all for a good cause {isn’t it? or is that what we try to tell ourselves so we feel better about eating chocolate for afternoon tea instead of a Healthy Fresh Green Apple?}

I wanted to share with you My very own Spa it Girl Insider Wellness Tips on 6 ways to Beat Junk Food Cravings:

1. Take great care yourself.  If you don’t no one else will.  It’s important to create space within your mind daily.  Wake up each day and sit in silence – meditate – this will help lower your stress levels and manage your stress.  Instead of using junk food, sugar, alcohol as a stress reliever choose:  daily meditation, yoga, exercise, relaxation and seek professional support to help you get through whatever concern you want to work on and heal from.

2. Practice mindfulness.
 Observe your surroundings, be present, connect with your breathe.  When you feel stressed instead of tucking into the junk food choose to do some gentle exercise or go for a heart pumping run, practice yoga whatever you choose to do make sure you MOVE  you feel great with all of those natural feel good endorphins which will far out weight the feelings of tucking into a bowl of ice-cream whilst watching repeats of sex in the city.

3. Don’t get sucked into all of that clever junk food marketing.  Choose to eat food that don’t have ads.  Eat fresh food and ingredients that you know how to spell and pronounce and were it also came from and how it was made. If you can’t spell the food and ingredients you are eating and don’t know were it came from then it’s time to get back to the basics and to keep it simple and to eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

4. Keep a Check on Your Moods – if you feel like things are getting on top of you then don’t turn to finding comfort in junk food seek help from a professional who will be able to give all the support you need to get through anything.  Let your family and friends know that you are choosing to eat healthy and be proud. Surround yourself with positive supportive people who are also trying their best to be healthy to.  Start up your own healthy living support crew.

5. Don’t go grocery shopping when you’re hungry.  Make sure you eat a healthy snack. Before you go into the supermarket you need to know what you are buying and be sure to take in your Clean Eating Shopping List, stay focused on this list.  Repeat this Mantra over and over again if you need to: I eat to nourish myself.  Be strong and walk straight past all of those junk food specials that are placed at the end of every aisle in the supermarket.  Don’t get lured in by the constant supermarket junk food temptations – remember Christmas is suppose to be only once a year!

6.  Fill your fridge and cupboards with lots of unprocessed fresh foods and ingredients.  Always have healthy snacks in your handbag, at work and in your gym bag. Never leave home without your water bottle and green tea.

I believe when you change your mindset to: I exercise to feel great…..I meditate to manage my stress….you can overcome your junk food cravings and live your best healthiest and happiest life.
